JUNIOR COURSES
JUNIOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE & ACTIVITYEnglish Language Ireland's (ELI) Junior Summer School includes English Language Tuition with a full programme of sports, leisure and cultural activities. The morning classes are divided into two sessions; the first session is designed to concentrate on the grammatical and written aspects of the language, while the second session is designed to improve listening and oral skills. Role play, communication exercises and authentic materials are used. Project work is an important part of the course, as is Irish Culture, History and Legend. A Placement Test is held at the beginning of the course to determine the level appropriate to each student. Interim Progress Tests and a Final Examination are also carried out. Appropriate Certification is awarded at the close of the course.
Our Junior Centres:
- St. Leo's College, Carlow
- Presentation College Carlow
- The Schoolhouse, O'Brien Road, Carlow
The Intensive Four-to-One Programme has been designed for students who want to make quick progress. The ratio of students to teacher allows this to happen. Concentration is on improving competence in written and oral work and the focus of the course is on the systematic development of the spoken and written word. Students may have their classes either in the teacher's home or at the school. The students on the 4:1 programme join in the Cultural & Leisure Programme Schedule for the Afternoons and Satrudays.
ONE TO ONE & TWO TO ONE JUNIOR
Students come for this more personal and intensive exposure to English language. The minimum length of stay of a course is one week and there is no limit to the duration of stay. All students on these courses must avail of an airport transfer to their host tutor, for which they must pay the relevant fee.
ONE TO ONE & LEISURE AND CULTURE
This programme offers the student the 'best of both worlds'!. Tution is on an individual basis in the mornings, while in the afternoon the student joins with our international groups to participate in a full afternoon of leisure and culture including full day Saturday excursions.
FULL IMMERSION PROGRAMMEEnglish Language Ireland receives students on the Full Immersion Programme from the age of 13 to 18 who have a basic knowledge of English. For the younger ones, parents know that their children have little or no opportunity to speak their own language, while enjoying the security of a family environment. The family hosting an 'Immersion Student' is aware that they have to be more available to the student and to integrate him/her completely into their family life. Many students like to stay with a host family where there are children of a similar age, where possible.
The minimum length of stay is two weeks. All students on this programme must reserve an airport transfer, usually provided by the host family, for which they pay the appropriate fee. There is no formal tuition on this course, however, students are provided with a workbook to complete during their stay. The student also undertakes a project / presentation / essay relating to Irish life and culture.
